The interview tells you exactly what to measure and how, in plain language. A few habits make your numbers trustworthy:
- Use a real tape measure, not phone-screen guesses.
- Measure twice; if the numbers disagree, write the bigger one.
- Round to the nearest inch for small things and the nearest half foot for long runs.
- If you can't reach something safely, skip it and say so. Never climb for a measurement.
- Honesty beats precision: a contractor can price around 'about 120 feet', but not around a wrong number stated confidently.
Some jobs have hidden conditions no measurement can capture (behind walls, under floors, structural). The scope flags those, and bids on them may be marked preliminary pending a walkthrough. That's the honest version of accuracy.
